Library Staff Connect Up

  • Dulwich College Singapore Bukit Batok West Avenue 8 658966 Singapore (map)

I presented at the 2026 January Library Staff Connect up on A.I. and how it relates to the role of the library coordinator. I split the hefty topic of A.I. into three key parts.

Firstly, I discussed how we need to begin understanding A.I. if we have not made friends with it. There is an intended shift with A.I., and it will have an impact on how libraries are used. Understanding how students will be interacting with it and this impact on library usage is monumental.

Secondly, I talked about the relevance of using A.I. as an analytical tool. Harnessing some data from a local library, I demonstrated trends and predictable data to show how librarians can anticipate the needs and trends of their students. Also, how A.I. can be set up to support student needs within the library. The data suggested that these particular students were heavily into series books. The Hunger Games featured highly amongst teenagers, so I modelled a GPT that embodied literary characters. Katniss Everdeen explained what she really saw in Peter.

Finally, I focussed on the importance of using A.I. for creativity. Knowing how creative it can be as a tool, I modelled some examples of where I had used it to illustrate a book I had written for my class.
